Welcome to The Vibes, by Erik Jackson

Dig deep into 45 rare grooves and soulful chord progressions, ready to chop! These aren’t your average, boring chord progressions found in other sample packs. Erik went digging deep into rare Soul 45’s and Classic Soul Jazz records to find inspiration for this sample pack.

The chords were replayed on a 76 Fender Rhodes which was fed into a 78 Fender Twin Reverb directly to analog tape. Erik is including the chord progression MIDI files with this pack, for further manipulation, tweaking, and layering within your DAW’s midi roll.

The drums were recorded from a classic 78 Pearl Kit directly to tape. Erik gives you the option to chop 20 original live breaks or program using 21 one shot drum samples.

Bass MIDI files were also added to use with each chord progression. You’ll be able to add your own sound and program your own bass using the MIDI included with this kit.

This pack will help you create some awesome music and learn some music theory while chopping and flipping these samples with your favorite sampler!

This first volume consists of more than 150 original breakbeats and sounds played by drummer Salle de Jonge (LeslieNielsen, Shirma Rouse, The Fresh Cuts). De Jongeused different drumkits, various mics and pre-amps to record his venomous drumplay. All tracks were recorded analogue and pre-mixed by Budy Mokoginta (Mokosound) through a classic Studer mixing board.

The result is a hefty selection of thick sounding beats, dusty breaks and drum-sounds. There’s something for every producer who likes to cut, paste and chop: off-grid beats, classic breaks, funky grooves, loud bass kicks, snappy snares.

The Drum Broker has teamed up with Sound Designer EARS to bring you a truly unique and one of a kind percussion kit. Texture, Crunch, & Percussion is a collection of 237 unique and unusual percussion sounds.

The inspiration for this kit, came from years of collecting unusual percussion and various instruments, as a beatmaker, EARS often found himself searching for strange acoustic percussive textures, which help create big wet crunchy snare sounds and shaker samples, bells, gongs, rattles etc. to layer with his hi hats and thicken the textures that will glue the break together, and influence the overall groove of the beat. 

These samples were recorded in a bedroom studio, and as a result you will hear occasional distant traffic noise and birds, the charm of this kit is in the detail and colour the recordings, they aren’t clinical sounds, but rather a creative approach to making useable samples that have tonnes of character.

All percussion samples recorded using Neumann KM-184 Microphones, running through a Universal Audio 6176 Channel strip, into a Neve 8803 Equalizer, tracking to Logic using the Universal Audio Apollo Twin. 

All samples have been carefully edited and have had some Low end cleaned up with a gentle roll off, the top end has been slightly brightened using the Neve and then Maag Eq. Some subtle compression has been handled by the Manley Vari-mu. 

 Samples are Dry and Normalized as 24 bit Wav. files.
